![]() Finally the long-awaited (S)ingapore (Y)outh (F)estival Central Judging Malay Dance 2009 post. I know, it took me stone ages for me to update on this but please excuse me. Cos yours truly is a very busy girl, mind you. HEH. Alright let's get back. SYF falls on 7th April 2009, Tuesday. All of us were supposed to report to school at 8am. In the morning at 7am, some of us ML clan met up first at McD's. Some had their breakfast while others just gathered. While at it, we bumped into Abang. He was suprised to see us there and rushed us to get back to school. So 45mins later, all of us walked to school. Once reached school, all of the dancers went up to the Learning Hub. Where we were suppose to get ready for the extravagant performance. LOL. Abang instructed us to get change into our costume. Soon after, abang's entourage aka make-up artists came with their kit(!) Some had their make-up done, while the others had their hair done first. In between, some went for their brunch. The whole "getting-ready" session took about 3-4 hours. We started at 8.30am and ended at approximately round 11am. Cleared and packed everything up and went to the hall. We had our last run at the school hall before we left for UCC: The real performance. The last run was a-okay. Even some commented that we still did not put in effort. At 11.30am, we boarded the bus. Some perspired and whatever, so they had their touch-up session. While at it, the principal board the bus for awhile to give us some moral support! 5 mins later, off we go! The bus was filled with anxiety and enthusiasm. So the journey from school to UCC was somewhat a solemn yet kecoh journey. Some "meditated" to get their performance mood ON while the others talked away to drive their anxiety away. 30/45mins later, we reached. Once we alighted the bus, some of the schools there were glaring at us. Sigh, we tried to keep our cool and maintain our composure. 3 mins later, another school which abang choreographed, came. We went inside and sat at one corner. All of us sat down and remain quiet. Had photography session in between though. 10 mins later, we were called up to get ready in this "square holding place." That's where we sat down in a circle and tried to calm ourselves down. Cikgu gave encouragements while the other seniors gave a piece of their mind. Each one of us were helping out each other by reminding that we must have fun and enjoy ourselves. That's the most important thing! 5 mins later, we were called up backstage. We were ordered to line up 2-by-2 and remain quiet backstage. And so we did. I swear I can see each one of us were nervous and anxious but yet excited. The feelings inside were undescribable. It cant be put into words. Words are not enough to describe how we felt at that moment. Before we split ourselves up according to the left/right stage, we did our prayers. Once reached backstage, there was a school performing and all of us watched with much anxiety. There was also a school behind us which we dint really cared about. Before the performance, we assured each other that everything is going to be a blast. We're gonna rock the stage and make sure that the judges enjoy our dance performance. Item number 55: Woodlands Ring Secondary School. ZAPIN GEMILANG. And right after that, our song was up and we danced to our hearts content. I'm sure myself including the others were enjoying ourselves so much that we dint care much about the audience. We just focused on the judges and also to smile. The atmosphere on stage while we were dancing was indescribable. Each one of us was smiling from ear to ear. And the boys was shouting throughout the Samra/Wind-up. Oh and including the girls too. Hehe. We ended the performance with a big bang! The crowd enjoyed our performance till we received cheerings and a huge round of applause. After the performance, we were all very happy and excited. The feeling of nervousness and anxiousness was long gone and dissapeared. We were now overwhelmed. Went to meet up with Cikgu and Instructors to have our lil break. We received compliments from strangers and not to forget our Cikgu and Instructors. We stayed at UCC for an hour plus to watch other schools' performances and also most importantly to have our photography session. There were too many flashes around and the pictures accumulated was over 100-200++ At about 3.45pm, the bus came and off we went back to school. The journey back was a silent one. Each one of us were drained out and we had a short nap after our deserving performance. On 9th April 2009, we received the results. In the morning of that very fateful day, each one of us were psyched up to know the results. But we waited for our school performance to end. Once we got in the meeting room, we persuaded Cikgu to tell us. And sadly, we were greeted with a sad news. we managed to attained a silver it was really disheartening. this wasnt what we expected. this wasnt what we aimed for. this wasnt what we wanted. but alas we got it. the past few months of trainings and drilling on the techniques, we thought we could get better but we dint. all of us left the room with a heavy heart. we cried. thats how much passion we have for dancing. and thats how much we wanted more than a silver. but its okay, atleast we know we enjoyed ourselves and we did our best. we received a whole lot of compliments on our dance. we know we deserved better. but we're happy to settle for a silver (: To my fellow dancers, please do not be dishearten nomore about the results. we've done our best. look on the bright side of things, we bonded together as one. we managed to show others how much talent we have. and most importantly, we would like to thank the instructors and cikgu for the undying support and encouragements you guys gave us. im sure without the presence of you all, we wouldnt done this good. from those who dont know how to dance, now they can gyrate (: lets look forward to more dance performances/competitions. and insya'allah, we will soar in those other competitions. just remember, winning isint everything. xoxo |
